Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some FAQs collated from our past rider enquiries. If the answer you seek is not listed below, please contact us.
Where is your shop located, and how to get there?
- 466 Macquarie Street, South Hobart, Tasmania
- By car: 5–7 minute drive from the Hobart City Centre
- From Hobart Airport: Allow 35 minutes travel time (more during peak commuter hours).
- By public transport: Catch the 426 bus from Franklin Square; it stops directly outside our shop. Please check the timetable to ensure you arrive in time for your tour setup.
- By Uber or taxi (phone 131 008)
Is there parking available near the shop?
- Free All-Day Parking: Available close by on Washington Street and Wentworth Street.
- Weekends & Holidays: Parking is usually available directly opposite the shop.
- Warning: Check street signs carefully, as some sections have strict 15 or 30-minute limits.
- Please do not park in the car park next to our shop, as it is strictly private parking for local businesses.
Do you offer hotel or cruise ship terminal pick-ups?
Not as standard. Because our shop is located closer to the mountain trails than the city, we conduct all bike fittings and safety briefings on-site before we head to the trails.
For groups of 6 or more riders, we may be able to offer a pickup for a small additional fee.
Contact us to discuss transport options for your group.
Planning Your Ride (Age, Height & Fitness)
Are there height or weight restrictions?
- Height: Minimum 125 cm (we stock bikes starting at this size).
- Weight: Maximum 120 kg, in line with our bike manufacturers' safety guidelines.
Can children join the tours?
Yes, if they meet the height requirement. Children must be at least 125 cm tall. Because trail difficulty varies, some tours are much better suited for younger riders than others. Their experience and confidence is often more important than their height and age.

What level of fitness and competence do I need to enjoy the Summit Descent and Rainforest Adventure guided tour?
Only a basic level of fitness is required as it is all downhill apart from one short section which we can push our bikes up. Riders should, however, be comfortable on a bike with good basic bike handling skills. We do an extended rider briefing before the tour and talk about the stages of the ride and the features of your bike. Your guide will also support you during the ride so please let them know if you feel even the slightest bit nervous. Contact us before you book if you are at all concerned about whether the ride is suitable for you.
Can I upgrade to an e-bike for the Summit Descent and Rainforest Adventure guided tour?
An e-bike is not necessary on this tour as it is all down-hill. If you and your group would like to book a private tour using e-bikes, please contact us as we can customise an e-bike tour on the mountain for you.
Can I bring my own bike on the Summit Descent and Rainforest Adventure guided tour?
We prefer to use our own top quality front suspension non-electric mountain bikes as we know they are suited to the trails. It is also better if everyone is on the same type of bike. Our guides are also very familiar with our bikes so if something needs adjusting mid-ride, they can sort it out quickly so you can continue on the tour. If you have your own bike and would like to do a self-guided ride, we can shuttle you to the trails and give you some trail advice.
Do you offer bike rentals without a guide?
Absolutely. We have a wide range of top quality electric and regular (non-electric) hire bikes and can offer you a shuttle to the trails if you would like to explore them as part of a self-guided ride package. All our guides are locals and know the trails well. Check out the bike range on our website.
Do I need to book in advance or can I just walk up?
We recommend booking in advance and well in advance during the peak months of December to March to guarantee you get a spot on your preferred day. You can check tour availability through our website. If you need to book last minute, best to give us a call to check if we can fit you in. If our guided tours are full, we may have a self-guided option to suit you.
Can I book a private tour?
Absolutely. If you want an exclusive experience, we can fully customize a private tour for you. Options include flexible start times, hotel pick-ups, and even specialized MTB skills coaching. Contact us with your details for a custom quote.
Gear, Bikes & What’s Included and What to Bring
What should I wear and bring?
- Clothing: Comfortable activewear. Bring warm, waterproof layers if cooler or rainy weather is forecast.
- Footwear: Sturdy, fully enclosed shoes are mandatory (no open toes).
- Mud happens: If the trail is wet, expect mud splatter on your clothes and shoes. Wear easily washable gear!
- Bags & Spares: We recommend bringing a lightweight backpack for essentials (jumper, snacks, phone, sunblock, drink). You are welcome to leave a change of spare clothes securely in our office during your ride.
Do you supply helmets and protective gear?
Yes. We provide Australian Standards-approved helmets and gloves free of charge.
We also keep a selection of jackets on hand if you happen to be travelling light.
Do the bikes have water bottle holders?
Yes. Every bike features a standard bottle holder that snugly fits a 750ml bottle (up to an 8cm diameter).
Forgot your bottle? We have branded drink bottles available for purchase at the shop.
Are snacks included in the price of the rides and tours?
No. There is a supermarket next to our shop if you need supplies. We will also stop at a local café on the mountain if you would prefer to purchase a hot or cold drink or home-made snack mid-ride.
Weather & Cancellations
What happens if the weather is bad?
Tours run in the rain. We only cancel if weather conditions become dangerous (e.g., torrential rain, high winds, or extreme fire danger). If we must cancel, we will notify you in advance to offer a reschedule, a gift voucher, or a full refund.
What if the Mt Wellington summit road is closed?
If the Hobart City Council closes the summit road due to weather or roadworks, your ride is still on! We will pivot to a longer, stunning ride along our lower rainforest trail, which is protected from summit closures.
What is your cancellation policy?
- Up to 24 hours before departure: Free cancellation or date changes (subject to availability).
- Within 24 hours of departure: 50% cancellation fee.
- No-shows: Not eligible for a refund.
- Note: Cancellation and reschedule requests are ultimately assessed on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us as soon as possible if your plans change.
