Responsible and Sustainable Tourism
We're proud to have been a Sustainable Tourism Accredited Business since 2022.
The Sustainable Tourism Accreditation is the Australian tourism industry’s largest and longest-running sustainability program, with more than 3,500 participating businesses.
Accreditation incorporates sustainability across environmental, cultural, social and commercial business practices.

Environmental Sustainability
At Tasmanian Mountain Bike Adventures, we consider it a privilege to be able to showcase Tasmania’s natural environment to our riders and strive to not only minimise our environmental footprint, but empower our riders to do the same.
In 2024, we took our commitment to environmental sustainability one step further and become one the first Tasmanian tourism participants in the Tourism Emissions Reduction Program.
Every year we measure our emissions in key parts of our operations – from energy to travel to our suppliers – so we can take practical steps to reduce them over time.
In 2026 we decided to create this new part of our website as one way of sharing our progress and aspirations so you can feel confident that we are living up to our commitments.
Carbon Emission Reduction
Below are some of the steps we are taking to reduce our carbon emissions. Some of them may seem small, but combined, we hope we can not only make a difference but inspire others to take steps, however small they may seem.
- We measure and track our carbon footprint annually
- We separate our waste for recycling and composting, using food waste to fed our chickens and as compost for our veggie patch
- We make our own cleaning products with the main ingredient being fresh lemons from our lemon tree
- We upcycle jackets from our local Vinnies charity store to make sure we have a full range of jackets to keep our riders warm on chilly days
- We convert our burst inner-tubes to tie downs in our shuttles and join some together to create a make-shift washing line to air wet gear
- We use bicycles for city transport when possible and also to collect our vehicles at the end of the day
- We ensure all our vehicles are serviced regularly to maintain optimum fuel efficiency
- We manage our rider capacity to limit the number of vehicles we use daily
- We stay off tracks we consider need to be rested and encourage others to do the same
- We provide our riders with reusable water bottles
- We don’t use single plastics
Emissions Reduction Commitment and Plan

We would love you to check out the wider range of actions we have taken and plan to take to manage and reduce our emissions and nurture our precious environment.
We also would like to encourage our riders to support tour operators who are also committed to reducing their emissions.

What can you do...some ideas
You’ll hear more about how we reduce our footprint when you ride with us.
Even when you returned home from one of our tours, there is a lot that you can do to reduce your footprint and leave no trace.
Here are some ideas from Australia Leave No Trace. We hope you love these tips as much as we do.
Social, Community, Cultural, Ethical and Economic Sustainability
Real sustainability goes beyond recycling bins and avoiding single use water bottles. It’s also about helping communities thrive, protecting culture, keeping our staff and riders safe and our business afloat.
Our Sustainable Tourism Accreditation means we take these responsibilities seriously. Our dedicated team of passionate local staff proudly provide an authentic, local insight into our neighbourhood and the areas we explore. We also strive to contribute to our community and make a difference.
Here are some ways we do it:
- We participate in regular track maintenance days to help ensure our trails stay in tip-top condition year round and report back track issues to relevant authorities
- We collaborate, partner, showcase and promote local cafes and tourist attractions as part of our tours. In late 2025, we opened our first shop front. This has given even more opportunities to support our community and showcase others.
- We purchase goods and services from local suppliers where possible. This year 90% of all our purchases were through local suppliers.
- We hire local guides, endeavour to deliver a work/life balance for our staff and provide training and develop opportunities to upskill them. Our team continues to grow each year, with very low staff turnover.
- We host work experience students each year, involving them in all aspects of our business. A number of these students are now part of or casual peak season workforce.
- We support local school and community fundraising efforts and discount trailer hire to local schools to transport their own bike fleets.
- We support migrant learn to ride programs. One of our team members works on these programs and we supply a bike trailer to transport their bikes.
- We Respectfully seek advice from First Nation’s tour operators to incorporate cultural elements in tours, with a focus on fostering understanding and appreciation for their country, heritage and traditions.
- We practice responsible financial planning, ensuring our business operations remain efficient and sustainable and still effectively support the local economy
- We stay true to our core values of sustainability, adventure, connections, well-being, fun and prioritise transparency and accuracy through our marketing strategies, fostering trust and integrity.
- We seek feedback from customers and industry experts, enabling us to continuously improve our operations.
We were humbled that the sustainability actions of our small family owned and run mountain bike tourism business were recognised by the tourism industry when we received the Chief of Judges Positive Impact in tourism award at the 2024 Tasmanian Tourism Awards.

Ultimately, we are confident that our commitment to maximise the good, minimise the harm and share the benefits more broadly, will inspire rider decisions to leave places better than they found them.
